Simcoe Community Access Network

The Simcoe Community Access Network (SCAN) is a Non-Profit cooperative that facilitates the procurement of telecommunications services for public sector organizations. SCAN ensures the public sector telecommunications services are procured at the most competitive market rate available for our region. The collective purchasing power of SCAN allows us to negotiate a better contract with service providers.

The initial SCAN network was built and delivered in 2002. Since then the members have had access to a robust fiber optic network capable of delivering telecommunications services to rural and urban communities. Our network allows organizations with multiple geographically dispersed offices to be connected to a single private network.

Access to SCAN services are available to any public sector service in the Simcoe Muskoka region. Our primary objective is to support organizations within our region. The SCAN network can extend past the Simcoe Muskoka region for organizations with remote offices outside of our local region. This large geographical presence will allow public sector services with multiple locations to stay connected to a single network provider.

SCAN continues to support ongoing telecommunication expansion projects such as SWIFT through federal, and provincial funding. This support will allow communities to access telecommunications services where they were previously not available.

Promotes the provision of fast, reliable, cost-effective network communications to organizations based in Simcoe County.

Facilitates access to community-based information and technology resources via the internet; and leads the exchange of ideas, knowledge and technical expertise through training and education to build a strong future for I.T. in Simcoe County.
